Light The Night
Light the night was a huge success! Over $5,000 dollars were raised to benefit EMHS. The students displayed some very high quality projects for Big Ideas. We reached our goal of lighting 5,000 luminarias and several were torched by unwitting students. Several parents commented on the beauty of the luminarias and praised the students hard efforts. The World Percussion Ensemble was the highlight of the night and played extremely well.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!
On Monday night a snow storm crashed down upon us bringing thunder, lightning, and howling winds with it. The heavens opened up and brought forth a snow storm of monstrous proportions. This titan of a storm closed down school the next day and the treacherous ice bought a two hour delay on Wednesday. The snow gods truly answered the prayers of the students of EMHS with a vengeance.

NationalHonorSociety
Today we had a NHS meeting during advocacy. We were told how they had, and how we could, become part of National Honor Society. They lit the traditional candles, one by one, as they recited their goals, pledges, and accomplishments. It was an inspiring ceremony and reminded our student body of how special our school really is. Keep up the good work NHS!!

Basketball Game
Today there was a game of basketball between the Timberwolf teams and the Timberwolf faculty. The match shot back and forth, as basketball games often do. The first match was the faculty vs. the girls team. Both put up a good fight, but the teachers won. The second match was the teachers vs. the boys team. The teachers led off the clash with a massive foul, and continued on that way the rest of the game. The boys team played fair and emerged victorious with a score of 10 to 5. The matches were interesting and fun to watch, and it really boosted the schools spirit about winter sports!
Battle of the Bands!!!!
The Battle of the Bands had an excellent turnout the masses weren't disappointed. The bands were amazing and the crowd was howling and screaming the whole time. The victor of the competition was the band Spring Loaded Hot-dog and The Password is Jaded, another band, came in close second. The two were neck and neck throughout the whole night. As a prize, both bands were given slots for recording sessions. The stage was rockin when Chronologic and Sam n' Nate took up the microphones. The night raised a ton of money for the music department and, more importantly, rocked out loud! We can only hope that there will be another battle of the bands competition next year, and that it will be twice as awesome.

Veterans Day!!!
Here at East Mountain High School, Veterans Day was well celebrated. We had many visitors who came into classrooms and told about their experiences. Those of us who have family who are veterans, or have family who are currently serving in the military swell with pride on the occasion, more so than usual. Our veterans deserve everyday to be honored, but we must settle for just the one day out of three hundred sixty five. We thank you veterans, all of you, for your courage, determination, and loyalty. We salute you.

Volleyball Game Against Estancia
Though our JV and Varsity team played valiantly, we were defeated in both games. All the teams were unwilling to budge, a mental stalemate. However we were just outclassed. Good Job Timberwolves! We all hope you had a blast and wish you the best of luck next time. Whatever you do, do not become discouraged Timberwolves, there are as many dark nights as sunny days.

Speech And Debate
This weekend, East Mountain High School hosted its first ever speech and debate tournament. There were many different schools from around the state who competed in events such as Lincoln Douglas Debate, Impromptu Speaking, and a lot of others. There were so many people who helped by volunteering to be judges, bringing food for judges, timing events, and so much else. So much time and hard work went in to making this a totally amazing event for everyone and we hope that friendships were forged!!

No Opposable Thumbs day
In order to realize the difficulties of not having thumbs, Mr Zerbe and many of his students taped their thumbs in order to not use them. Many students who participated found it difficult to write and text. Some teachers did not appreciate students not having thumbs and made the students remove the tape. When asked about a possible newfound appreciation for thumbs, Mr Zerbe replied "yes, I am very apprecative of my thumbs now and I'm glad we and our ancestors had them."

Girls Blank Espanola 10-0
The EMHS Girls Soccer Team traveled to Espanola on Tuesday and came away with a lopsided win. The final score was 10-0, with Anna Baldoni, Lila Murray, Stephanie Marks, Hayley Fowler, Sean Lowry and Amanda Simmons scoring. Brianna O'Brien was in goal.
According to Mimi Trusiano and Ashley Vallejos, the next big test for the team is coming up. Their next game against Monte del Sol will be harder, they say. "I guarantee it will be intense," claims Mimi.
