The Busy Weekend

The weekend was full of many busy events for the Timberwolves, some great and some not soooo great.

Basketball:
The Varsity Girls lost 41-36.
The Varsity Boys team won 61-37. Ryan Berryman scored 19pts and Mike James scored 16 pts.

Speech and Debate:
They won first place sweepstakes at the La Cueva tournament.

Discovery Projects:
Discovery projects were assigned over the weekend. Today students found out what they were assigned to. There was a mad rush to the front office to see who was in each discovery and who was in their discovery with them.

Snow!!:
Today we had a 2 hour delay because of the snow on the roads although it was not icy, it was very slushy. We should get 2-4 inches tonight, so maybe/ hopefully we get a snow day!

The Long Wait for Discovery

Students lined up as early 4:30 am, in hopeful thoughts that they would get their 1st discovery choice. As soon as thee doors opened students rushed to line up, from the start the wait was only ten minutes; as more students came the wait became longer. Some students cut to the front with their friends! After signing up, some students sipped hot chocolate, while others went home for a quick nap. Overall discovery sign up was an exciting day for most students.

Person of the Day

EMHS has affected my teaching expirence. The teachers here are more professional and actually know what they are doing. I think that the other staff in the science department definetly appreciate my youth and quirkiness and value me as a peer. The small school lifestyle definetly sets EMHS apart from other schools. Other things like discovery and inquiry make us unique and different.

Light The Night

Light the night was a huge success! Over $5,000 dollars were raised to benefit EMHS. The students displayed some very high quality projects for Big Ideas. We reached our goal of lighting 5,000 luminarias and several were torched by unwitting students. Several parents commented on the beauty of the luminarias and praised the students hard efforts. The World Percussion Ensemble was the highlight of the night and played extremely well.

It's that time again, folks. The Light The Night is back! Prepare the luminarias, all 5000 of them, and get ready. There will be treats like hot chocolate, and holiday sales. Oh, and don't forget the fantastic performances that the EMHS music classes will do. Get your, wallets, purses, appetites, and prepare your ears for a rockin time.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!

On Monday night a snow storm crashed down upon us bringing thunder, lightning, and howling winds with it. The heavens opened up and brought forth a snow storm of monstrous proportions. This titan of a storm closed down school the next day and the treacherous ice bought a two hour delay on Wednesday. The snow gods truly answered the prayers of the students of EMHS with a vengeance.

NationalHonorSociety

Today we had a NHS meeting during advocacy. We were told how they had, and how we could, become part of National Honor Society. They lit the traditional candles, one by one, as they recited their goals, pledges, and accomplishments. It was an inspiring ceremony and reminded our student body of how special our school really is. Keep up the good work NHS!!

Zerbe reflects on the Basketball game!

Basketball Game

Today there was a game of basketball between the Timberwolf teams and the Timberwolf faculty. The match shot back and forth, as basketball games often do. The first match was the faculty vs. the girls team. Both put up a good fight, but the teachers won. The second match was the teachers vs. the boys team. The teachers led off the clash with a massive foul, and continued on that way the rest of the game. The boys team played fair and emerged victorious with a score of 10 to 5. The matches were interesting and fun to watch, and it really boosted the schools spirit about winter sports!

Battle of the Bands!!!!

The Battle of the Bands had an excellent turnout the masses weren't disappointed. The bands were amazing and the crowd was howling and screaming the whole time. The victor of the competition was the band Spring Loaded Hot-dog and The Password is Jaded, another band, came in close second. The two were neck and neck throughout the whole night. As a prize, both bands were given slots for recording sessions. The stage was rockin when Chronologic and Sam n' Nate took up the microphones. The night raised a ton of money for the music department and, more importantly, rocked out loud! We can only hope that there will be another battle of the bands competition next year, and that it will be twice as awesome.

Veterans Day!!!

Here at East Mountain High School, Veterans Day was well celebrated. We had many visitors who came into classrooms and told about their experiences. Those of us who have family who are veterans, or have family who are currently serving in the military swell with pride on the occasion, more so than usual. Our veterans deserve everyday to be honored, but we must settle for just the one day out of three hundred sixty five. We thank you veterans, all of you, for your courage, determination, and loyalty. We salute you.
